Video: Yoga for Yumiko 2- Waking up Yoga Empowered Style

This is my new favorite sequence! Yumiko, my dear friend, again inspired this waking up Yoga Empowered Style video- I hope you enjoy it Miko!

I am a grumpus in the morning. This is for the grumpus's of the world to bring themselves from the heart of the grumpus to the heart of taking pleasure in waking to a new day. Be sure to honor your body and breath in this sequence.

Keep in mind you are just waking so go in and out of your poses with gentleness and ease. Also keep in mind you are not on your mat. Be mindful of maintaining gentle movement so you don't launch yourself or injure yourself from practicing on a sudden springboard. :o)

Do each pose about 3-6X. If you want to stay and breathe for 3 breaths after each pose- do it - listen to your body- you may want to or not depending on the morning. Even write out the sequence and put it at your bedside so you can roll over and begin.

Any questions- please let me know!

return often to your breath.

Baseball & Breathing

                                      Pictured- The Great Mariano Rivera NY Yankees #42

In the movie, For Love of the Game, Kevin Costner's baseball pitcher character would stand at the mound- you'd see, hear, feel his surroundings being so large and loud. You could feel his being consumed by the overwhelming noise and pressure from being surrounded by a screaming pulsating crowd filled stadium. Then he'd say:

Clear the mechanism.

His view would narrow to just the catcher and the home plate. The sounds would go from beyond heightened to a murmer and all the outside activity would fade away. He "cleared the mechanism" before each pitch.

Being aware of your breath in the moment has a tendency to clear the mechanism. It takes practice- in that every moment is different and every day is not the same. Some days you may not require a clearing and some days you may require seven before lunch.

How often do you catch yourself thinking about the future or the past? Mulling possibilities, conversations or could bes? My friend Lyds said it best to me- If you have one foot in the future and one foot in the past; you're pissing on the present. How often do you catch yourself holding your breath waiting for the next play, the next thing, the next...

Clear the mechanism before each pitch.

Sometimes a good clearing of the mechanism is needed. Over and over again- repeat- make no judgment (just like watching the breath).  Gently bring your attention back- over and over- repeat to Your breath and to this moment. Notice it - make no judgment (Clear the Mechanism).
